On Tuesday, T.I. released his seventh album, No Mercy, was released with the MC behind bars at an Arkansas correctional facility, where he's serving 11 months for a parole violation. While T.I. addressed fans directly Tuesday, thanking them for their support, MTV News spoke with the Grand Hustle rapper's label partner and manager Jason Geter about promoting another Tip album while the MC is away.
"I'm human, so of course it gets frustrating," Geter said. "But at the same time, I'm in it.
"I've been in it since day one. I've been friends with him as well as business partners, so you just have to switch your hats. You have to look at it from both standpoints: the business and the personal side. Sure, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating for me and for him, but I'm in it to the end."
Geter said he talks to the King of the South quite often.
"I speak to him on a daily basis, through e-mail," Geter said. "He's cool; he's dealing with it. With him, it's crazy. He's better prepared than most for this situation because — I don't want this to sound wrong — but he has been in jail so much. Still, he's definitely tired of it, I'm sure."
Since T.I. is incarcerated in a federal correctional facility, he's allowed access to e-mail, unlike Lil Wayne, who was reprimanded for possessing even an iPod during his stint at Rikers Island. Recently, Tip took to his TrapMuzik.com website and essentially said that if he wasn't such a troublemaker, he wouldn't be as interesting to his fans.
While Geter said, "I don't know if I agree with all of his words," the MC plans to release future online entries: "We're going to do things from time to time and speak out; It'll just be whatever's on his mind," Geter explained.
As for Tip's new wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, whom the MC married earlier this year, she's holding strong.
"His family is very close-knit and very large," Geter said. "Sure, Tiny's there by herself, but her mom and Tip's mom aren't far away. I'm sure the kids are definitely missing their dad. At this point, they're just dealing."
