'Tron Legacy' Director Contemplates Sequel 'Possibilities'

'I would definitely consider going back,' Joseph Kosinski says of possible third film.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

After "Tron Legacy" was crowned box-office king with a $43.6 million haul on its opening weekend, naturally the "Tron" talk shifts toward the sequel question. There's already a script in the works, so when MTV News had the chance to chat with one of the power players in the discussion — director Joseph Kosinski — we asked if he's thought about a sequel.

"Yeah, and I think we've created a world that has a lot of possibilities in it," he said. "It was important to me that we created those connections back to the original film. If audiences are interested in this movie and decide they want to go back, and we can find the right story and a way to push the envelope again, I would definitely consider going back."

In addition to bringing back stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, one character that seemed as though he could have a part in the continuation of the story is the briefly appearing Edward Dillinger (played by Cillian Murphy), a rising star at ENCOM, the ominous tech company at the center of "Tron" mythos.

"I'm a big fan of his," Kosinski said when asked how Murphy joined the project. "I'd been talking to him about a way to get involved in the movie from the beginning, and this opportunity came up, so I asked him to be a part of it, and he was excited to do it," Kosinski explained. "So I'm thrilled to have him in there."

Wilde echoed Kosinski's sentiments regarding Murphy's brief performance.

"Cillian Murphy — we were so lucky to have in this film," Wilde said. "His part in 'Tron Legacy' is so mysterious and cool. His role really fits into the mythology of 'Tron,' the corrupt environment of ENCOM. It just shows you that this fight is far from over."

Wilde has also said that she'd be game for another "Tron" movie, particularly exploring how her character, Quorra, would adapt to the human world.

"I'm so thrilled to play with Quorra in the human world. It would be sort of like 'Splash,' " she said, referring to the '80s comedy starring Daryl Hannah as a mermaid unleashed in Manhattan. "I want to see her whispering to laptops and hugging toasters. ... There's a whole other chapter ahead."

Do you want to see a sequel to "Tron Legacy"? Do you want to see more of Cillian Murphy's character? Tell us in the comments!

Dominique's Nose Job Shocks Fellow 'Bridalplasty' Contestants (VIDEO)

Dominique Recovers from Surgery on 'Bridalplasty'Dominique is the third bride to win (yes, win) a free surgical procedure on 'Bridalplasty' (Sun., 9PM ET on E!). Do these ladies realize that cosmetic surgery is still major surgery -- i.e., there's going to be blood, bruising, swelling and such?

Dominique has just received a nose job. Fellow brides/contestants run to the door to greet her. Their exuberance quickly fades as she walks in slowly, with two black eyes and a heavily bandaged nose.

"Dominique looks [like] a hot mess," says Melissa. Kristen, holding an ice pack to her breasts, tells Dominique, "You seem really stuffy." Now why would that be the case?

Prince Brings The Party To New Jersey Concert

The Purple One delighted the Izod Center crowd at his Welcome 2 America Tour stop on Friday with a career-spanning set and some special guests.

What man can make three-inch gold heels and a glittering top work? Only Prince, of course.

On Friday, the Purple One performed at New Jersey's Izod Center for his Welcome 2 America Tour before a packed crowd, seated well into the nose-bleeds. Drawing from his early catalogue, the icon began the show with a medley of "Let's Go Crazy" and "Delirious."

Working a stage shaped like the symbol he was "formerly known as," Prince strutted in a black suit detailed with gold trim while sporting his signature short haircut. His band included three background singers -- dressed in everything from feathers to polka dots -- a female bassist, two keyboardists and a drummer.

Maintaining the energy, the Minneapolis native kicked off "1999" with a question, "What'd y'all come to do . party?" Then, with a spotlight focused on him alone, Prince squealed a slow rendition of "Little Red Corvette" that sped up during each chorus only to smooth out again when it returned to the verses. Taking his jacket off, he threw the garment on the ground to reveal a bejeweled scarf slung around his neck as the fans screamed and the Grammy award winner disappeared below the stage.

In the following act, Prince, now wearing a mustard-colored silk pantsuit with a ruffled top, returned to the stage alongside ballerina . Copeland is the first African American female soloist in the American Ballet Theatre. As she twirled around the stage, the two created a sensual high-art version of "The Beautiful Ones," where each danced atop the stage's purple piano.

During "Controversy," famed funk saxophonist took the stage for a worthy solo as Prince directed the audience.

"I don't care what they told, wave your phones side to side!" he said, just before asking the crowd, "What shall we do? Can I do some for me?"

Breaking into "Take Me With You," as confetti began to pour from the ceiling and onto the stage, the singer and his band moved seamlessly into "Guitar," from Prince's 2007 LP, Planet Earth. The lights then dimmed and became purple as the band strummed the introduction to perhaps the biggest song of the artist's career, "Purple Rain." Walking around the stage, the petite performer encouraged his New York and New Jersey fans to sing the cut's bridge before he belted out the lyrics himself. As the song came to an end, Prince disappeared below the stage once again.

Talented drummer Sheila E then arose, flanked by a drum kit, as the Izod Center shook with applause. The "Krush Groove" star, sporting a sequin tank top, pants and over-the-knee boots, banged out her 1984 hit, "The Glamorous Life," before Prince joined in for their duet "Love Bizarre." To the delight of Sheila's enthusiasts, who were standing in their seats with excitement, she performed an impromptu drum solo and then Prince invited audience members to the stage for the Morris Day & the Time cuts "Jungle Love" and "The Bird." Waving goodbye, Prince, Sheila and the band disappeared backstage.

But the crowd would not accept their departure.

Wooed by applause and cheers, Prince returned for an encore and ran through "If I Was Your Girlfriend," "Insatiable" and "Scandalous" before finally wishing everyone a good night.

Have you caught or are you planning to attend any of Prince's Welcome 2 America shows? Tell us in the comments.

President Obama Forum Attendee Laments DREAM Act Failure

Ana Roa Arrázola, who questioned the president about immigration policies in October, calls Senate vote 'heartbreaking.'
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Saturday's Senate vote yielded the historic passing of a bill that will end the armed forces' polarizing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. However, the day was also low point for supporters of the DREAM Act, a measure which would have helped some illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children and have contributed to society earn citizenship.

The vote was especially disappointing for Ana Roa Arrázola, a student who bravely questioned President Barack Obama about the nation's frustratingly complex immigration process at MTV's October town hall, "A Conversation with President Obama." The commander in chief promised Arrázola, who entered the country legally but is unable to return to her native Colombia to visit her 92-year-old grandmother because of her immigrant status, that he would follow up with her. When MTV News caught up with her on Saturday, she revealed she that did visit the White House, but said Sunday's vote was demoralizing.

"I feel like the democrats put that in as like a collateral to 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' So I feel like it was gonna be 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' or the DREAM Act. 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' had a lot of strength and a lot of support," she said. "I think it was just the right time for Don't Ask, Don't Tell and, unfortunately, that kind of left the DREAM Act in the dust, which is really sad and heartbreaking."

Arrázola said she and other immigrants eager to reconnect with loved ones for the holidays were hoping for an outcome that may have cleared up much of the red tape surrounding the immigration process.

"It's difficult because it's the holiday season, and it's a time for people to be cheery and be happy and find reasons to be happy," she said. "I think a lot of us were counting on the DREAM Act, kind of as a Christmas present to bring some hope for the new year."

Unlike many grappling with the immigration experience in America, Arrázola was able to visit the White House and speak directly to members of President Obama's administration. While her personal situation remains unchanged, she maintained that re-shaping the labyrinthine path to citizenship must begin with lawmakers.

"I did get a chance to go to the White House and I met with a few people there," she said. "I got to talk to them and they were like, 'Oh your story's great, we're so proud that you've gotten so far.' But at the same time there's nothing they can do. It's disappointing that there's nothing they can do but it makes sense because the United States wasn't built on let's help one individual at a time. They have to pass legislation."

Arrázola added that shaking up the status quo is not only in the hands of President Obama, and implored politicians to reach across party lines to pass life-changing legislation.

"I think [President Obama has] done a good job. What I would say — not to President Obama because he can only do so much — I feel like what I would say to all the Democrats that voted against the DREAM Act and all of the Republicans who refused to vote for this bill, it was initially a bipartisan initiative. It wasn't particularly a Democrat bill or a Republican bill. I would just tell them that normal people, everyday people are not living on a red or blue basis," she said. "We're mostly just trying to get going with our lives to be able to accomplish our goals to maybe even go back home and visit our families. We're not living in a partisan world where we just try to keep people who don't agree with us from getting things done."

What do you think about the DREAM Act getting blocked? Let us know in the comments!

Six Late-Night Talk Show Hosts: Winners and Losers

'I'm With Coco' PosterCountdown to Festivus on Dec. 23: On the sixth day of Festivus, TV gave us to ... six late-night talk show hosts battling.

Hard to remember, but at this time a year ago, David Letterman was facing one of the biggest crises of his career in the wake of his sex-and-blackmail scandal, Conan O'Brien was just settling into his job at 'The Tonight Show,' Jay Leno was tanking in primetime and Jimmy Fallon was still finding his voice as a late-late-night host.

The late night landscape has changed a bit since then.

It was clear a year ago that there was trouble on the horizon, but few (save, perhaps, for Andy Richter) anticipated the earthquake to come. Most of the cataclysm occurred in January, when NBC decided to bring Leno back to 11:35, and O'Brien decided to take a golden parachute after just seven months on the job rather than follow Leno at 12:05.

The aftershocks from that event, which continue to this day, affected not just the two of them, but also Letterman, Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Craig Ferguson. (Not to mention a supporting cast of millions, including network bigwigs, obstinate local stations, and angry fans nationwide.)

Miraculously, all six night owls are still working -- though maybe not for much longer. How did the rollercoaster year shake out for each of them? Let's see ...

'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Season 1, Episode 9 Recap

'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' - 'The Dinner Party From Hell'['The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'- 'Dinner Party From Hell']

On this week's episode of 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,' Camille tried to unite her sisters in superficiality by throwing a dinner party at her house. To round out the group she invited her BFF Deidre and the real woman behind the TV show 'Medium.' As if we needed a psychic to predict how this meal would play out.

Camille claimed from the start that she wanted to make amends, let bygones be bygones and fire up her pizza oven. And before the crazy sh*t-slinging commenced, the party looked divine. There were cocktails and a wait staff and Camille's friend Allison, who can sense the presence of your dead grandmother and the M.O. of your standard serial killer. Allison is creepy and maniacal-the perfect addition to an already fraught dinner party.

'Tron Legacy': The Reviews Are In!

Critics call Disney's reboot/sequel a 'catchy popcorn pleasure' that is 'destined to split audiences.'
By Eric Ditzian

Garrett Hedlund and Beau Garrett in "Tron Legacy"
Photo: Disney

It's been a good year for studios that waited three decades to update old-school flicks. In April, Warner Bros. gave 1981's "Clash of the Titans" a coat of CGI splendor and ended up with a film that grossed almost $500 million worldwide. Can Disney, which has resurrected 1982's computer-world-based adventure film "Tron" for a new generation, mirror the success of "Clash"?

At this point, at least, "Tron Legacy" is receiving far kinder reviews than "Clash." That doesn't mean, of course, that "Tron" can top the $61 million domestic opening of the latter. Disney's 3-D film is predicted to land somewhere in the $40-45 million range. Will it defy expectations? Will positive word of mouth spread? Is the movie worth a trip to the theater on opening weekend? Check out what the critics are saying about "Tron Legacy" and decide for yourself.

The Story
"Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the son of video game developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), is left as the uninterested heir to his father's corporation after the elder Flynn's disappearance 20 years earlier. Following a mysterious signal, Sam finds himself pulled into the same computer world that has trapped his father. Reunited, the Flynns team with a Quorra (Olivia Wilde), a cyber warrior, to defeat Clu, a program left in charge of the Grid whose rise to power puts both the computer world — and our world — in danger." — Silas Lesnick, ComingSoon.net

The Comparison to the Original
"[T]his is one of the smartest ideas for a reboot in yonks. Where its fellow 1982 sci-fi releases, 'E.T.' and 'Blade Runner,' are still universally celebrated, 'Tron' 's visuals and ponderous tone have aged as badly as Manic Miner. The concept at the Disney film's core, however, remains beautifully simple: What if a man got sucked into a computer? That notion, revisited with today's turbo-boosted VFX technology, has now given Mickey Mouse a stonking tentpole. And make no mistake, 'Tron Legacy' — part sequel, part remake — is a proper event movie, complete with nattily digitized Cinderella's Castle at the start, a journey to a fully realized alien world and the best 3D since 'Avatar.' " — Nick de Semlyen, Empire

The Effects
"The FX in 'Tron Legacy' have an almost Einsteinian elegance: They infuse light with gravity. If one of the discs hits a combatant, he'll shatter into glassy fragments, and Sam, absorbing the physics of the game, must learn to treat his body almost as part of the surrounding architecture. He becomes a ruthless digital specter. As long as it's engaged in light-hurling bouts of force, or motorcycle chases through a landscape so ominously enveloping it looks like 'Blade Runner' after gentrification, 'Tron: Legacy' is a catchy popcorn pleasure." — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

The Dissenters
"This is one of those big-budget projects destined to split audiences (a good thing, always). Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who did the 'Halo' and 'Gears of War' commercials, 'Tron Legacy' comes to life when Sam, played by a too-cool-for-school Garrett Hedlund, learns the ways of the Lightcycles and the perilous joys of racing on 'ribbons of light.' Here, we get the sweep and simple excitement we need. Elsewhere, we get exposition more sluggish than the stuff we had to wade through in the second and third 'Matrix' movies, and a strained, opaque brand of intellectual-property mythology that might mean tons to ardent fans of the first 'Tron,' but less to others." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Final Word
" 'Tron: Legacy' is a surprising film for many reasons, not the least of which being that it contains more substance than is easily explored — if also to some extent, articulated — in just one viewing. And perhaps it might seem like a pre-emptive defense against logical or narrative shortcomings to make one of its central themes the idea that perfection, as we can imagine it, is ultimately unknowable. But it's a point that's well-taken, and if I have to endure the kind of imperfection that produces a film like 'Tron: Legacy,' which is interesting, inspiring and for better or worse, simply incomparable, then it's worth it." - Todd Gilchrist, Cinematical
